Typhoon Kalmaegi slammed into central Vietnam’s already storm-battered coastline Thursday evening, packing winds of up to 149 kilometres (92 miles) per hour, the environment ministry said.

“The storm is on land in the provinces of Dak Lak — Gia Lai,” the ministry said in a statement, adding the strongest sustained winds were 118-149 kph with much stronger gusts.
