Methane

Methane (CH₄) is a potent greenhouse gas found in the atmosphere, produced naturally by wetlands and methanogenic microbes, and released by human activities such as fossil fuel extraction, livestock farming, and waste management. It traps heat in the atmosphere, contributing to rising temperatures and driving climate change. Methane also affects air quality and interacts with other atmospheric chemicals, influencing the broader climate system.
