Accountability refers to the obligation of individuals, organizations or institutions to explain and justify their actions, accept responsibility for outcomes and be subject to oversight or consequences. It involves transparency, answerability and mechanisms for review or enforcement. Accountability is central to governance, public administration, corporate management and environmental policy, where it supports trust, compliance and responsible decision-making.
