Adsorption

Adsorption is a physical or chemical process in which atoms, ions or molecules adhere to the surface of a solid or liquid material rather than being absorbed into its bulk. It occurs due to surface forces and is used in applications such as water purification, air filtration, catalysis and industrial separation processes. Adsorption differs from absorption, where substances penetrate into the interior of a material.
