Algal blooms

Algal blooms are rapid increases in the growth of algae in freshwater or marine environments, often driven by excess nutrients, warm temperatures and changing environmental conditions. Blooms can alter water quality, reduce oxygen levels and disrupt aquatic ecosystems by blocking sunlight and affecting food webs. Some algal blooms are harmless, while others produce toxins or contribute to large-scale ecological impacts.
