CBAM

CBAM, or the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, is a European Union policy instrument designed to apply a carbon price to certain imported goods based on their embedded greenhouse gas emissions. It aims to align the carbon cost of imports with that faced by producers under the EU Emissions Trading System, reducing the risk of carbon leakage and maintaining competitiveness. CBAM initially covers sectors such as cement, steel, aluminum, fertilizers, electricity and hydrogen and is being phased in with reporting and compliance requirements.
