Drought

Drought is a prolonged period of abnormally low precipitation that results in a shortage of water. It may develop over months or years and can affect surface water, groundwater, soil moisture, agriculture, ecosystems, and water supplies. Drought is influenced by natural climate variability, but rising global temperatures and changes in precipitation patterns associated with climate change are increasing the frequency and severity of drought in some regions. Types of drought include meteorological, agricultural, hydrological, and socio-economic drought, depending on the processes and impacts involved.
