Maldives

Maldives is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Sri Lanka and India, consisting of about 1,200 coral islands grouped into 26 natural atolls. Its low-lying geography, extensive coral reef ecosystems, and tropical marine environment make the country an important location for research on climate change, sea level rise, coastal processes, marine biodiversity, coral reef conservation, fisheries, and oceanography. Scientists also study the Maldives to better understand how small island nations adapt to environmental change and how warming oceans affect both ecosystems and human communities.
