Marine Plants

Marine plants are photosynthetic organisms that live in marine and coastal environments and use sunlight, carbon dioxide and nutrients to produce organic matter. They include seagrasses and macroalgae such as kelp, which grow in shallow waters where sufficient light reaches the seabed. Marine plants form the base of many coastal food webs, contribute to oxygen production, stabilise sediments and play a role in carbon storage and nutrient cycling in ocean ecosystems.
