Pacific

The Pacific refers to the Pacific Ocean, the world’s largest and deepest ocean, extending between Asia and Australia to the west and the Americas to the east. It plays a major role in Earth’s climate system through ocean circulation, heat storage and atmospheric interactions, including phenomena such as El Niño and La Niña. The Pacific is central to research on ocean warming, marine biodiversity, tropical cyclones, sea level rise and the environmental impacts affecting island nations and coastal regions.
