Paleoclimatology

Paleoclimatology is the scientific study of Earth’s past climates, before the availability of direct instrumental records. It uses natural proxies such as ice cores, tree rings, sediments, corals, and fossils to reconstruct past atmospheric conditions, temperature, and precipitation patterns. Paleoclimatology helps scientists understand natural climate variability, historical climate events, and the context for current and future climate change.
