Polymers

Polymers are large molecules made from repeating chemical units linked into long chains or networks. Some, such as cellulose, proteins and natural rubber, are produced by living organisms, while synthetic polymers are used in plastics, fibres, coatings, adhesives and many other products. Their structure determines properties such as strength, flexibility and durability, but their manufacture and disposal can consume resources, complicate recycling and contribute to environmental pollution.
