Record

Record refers to the highest, lowest or otherwise unprecedented value, performance or outcome documented for a particular variable or metric within a defined period of observation. Records can apply to climate and weather measures such as temperature or precipitation, to environmental metrics such as emissions, to physical achievements in sports or animal behaviour, and to other quantifiable phenomena. They are used to compare current conditions or performances with historical data or previously known extremes.
