Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is energy obtained from natural resources that are replenished on a human timescale, including solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, and bioenergy. Renewable energy can be produced at large or small scale, suitable for urban and rural areas, and is often integrated with electrification of heating, transport, and industry. Sources vary in variability and controllability: for example, wind and solar fluctuate with weather, while hydropower, geothermal, and bioenergy can be managed more predictably. Renewable energy has grown rapidly in recent decades, contributing an increasing share of global electricity production, and is a key component of strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support climate change mitigation.
