Thunderstorms are atmospheric storms characterized by the development of cumulonimbus clouds producing thunder, lightning, heavy rainfall and sometimes hail or strong winds. They form when warm, moist air rises rapidly and becomes unstable in the atmosphere. Thunderstorms influence weather patterns and can produce hazards such as flooding, strong winds and tornadoes.
