Tonga

Tonga, officially the Kingdom of Tonga, is a Polynesian island nation in the South Pacific Ocean consisting of 171 islands, of which around 45 are inhabited. The country is highly exposed to volcanic activity, tsunamis, tropical cyclones and sea level rise due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire and within a vulnerable oceanic region. Tonga is closely associated with research on marine ecosystems, disaster resilience, climate change impacts and the environmental challenges facing small island states.
