Nuuk, Denmark (AFP) – Canadian-American anti-whaling activist Paul Watson told AFP on Thursday that his detention in Greenland pending possible extradition to Japan increased pressure on the Asian country over its whaling practices.

“It puts more pressure on Japan for their illegal whaling activities,” the 73-year-old campaigner told AFP as he was taken away by police after a Greenland judge extended his detention in custody until September 5.
