1.5/2°C Limit

The 1.5/2°C limits refer to internationally recognized thresholds for global average temperature increase relative to pre-industrial levels, established in climate policy under the Paris Agreement. The 1.5 °C goal aims to substantially reduce climate risks and impacts, while 2 °C represents a higher warming threshold associated with greater environmental and societal consequences. These limits are used to guide emission reduction pathways, assess mitigation efforts and evaluate projected effects on ecosystems, sea level and human systems.
