Forests

Forests are ecosystems dominated by dense communities of trees, covering roughly 31 percent of the world’s land area. They vary by climate and latitude, including tropical, temperate, subtropical, and boreal forests, and play a key role in global biodiversity, carbon storage, and the water cycle. Forests provide ecosystem services to humans but are threatened by deforestation, land-use change, and climate change.
